The Jesuit visionaries founded St. Joseph’s College (SJC) in 1844 with the noble aim of educating the humanity for the Good and the True ("Pro Bono et Vero"). The vision and mission made this 179-year old, Special Heritage Status College a beacon of light for all men and women aspiring to pursue holistic higher education. A pioneering educational institution in central part of Tamil Nadu, SJC is owned by the Society of St. Joseph’s, registered under Societies Regulation Act (1860).
St. Joseph’s College is consistent in its performance and progress in NAAC accreditation process. It has been accredited with A++Grade (4th Cycle) by NAAC in 2019. The college was recognized by UGC as a College with Potential for Excellence in 2004 and again in 2014. This is the only college in the Southern Eastern Region of India to have received the coveted honour of Special Heritage Status from UGC in 2015.
The Department of Tamil which specializes in publishing books, conducting research seminars, and conducting doctoral research in this prestigious college, has been publishing the research Journal "VALANAAYAM" as an annual printed journal since 1992. As a continuation of such a magnificent research journey, the Department of Tamil Studies intends to publish it not only as a half-yearly magazine but also as an e-magazine from the academic year 2021-2022. This journal aims to examine the discourse of Tamil language and resources of Tamil literature following the international methodologies for research papers.
தமிழகத்தின் மையப்பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள திருச்சிராப்பள்ளி மாநகரில் "உண்மைக்கும் நன்மைக்கும்" என்னும் விருதுவாக்கோடு கல்விவழி மனிதம் மலரச் செய்யும் இலக்குடன் 1844ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல் உயர்கல்வித் துறையில் தம் பங்களிப்பை ஆற்றிவருகிறது தூய வளனார் தன்னாட்சிக் கல்லூரி. மதுரை மறைமாநில சேசுசபையினரால் நடத்தப்படுகின்ற இக்கல்லூரியே, தேசிய தர மதிப்பீட்டுக்குழுவின் (நான்காம் சுற்று) A++ தகுதியைப் பெற்ற முதல் கலை மற்றும் அறிவியல் கல்லூரியாகும். தமிழகத்தில் உள்ள கல்லூரிகளுள் பல்கலைக்கழக மானியக்குழுவின் சிறப்புத் தொன்மைத் தகுதியைப் பெற்றுள்ள ஒரே கல்லூரி இதுவேயாகும். இத்தகு பெருமைமிகு கல்லூரியில் நூல்களை வெளியிடுவதிலும் ஆய்வுக்கருத்தரங்குகளை நடத்துவதிலும் முனைவர் பட்ட ஆய்வுகளை மேற்கொள்வதிலும் சிறப்புறச் செயல்படுகின்ற தமிழாய்வுத்துறை 1992 முதல் "வளன்ஆயம்" என்னும் ஆய்விதழை ஆண்டு இதழாக அச்சிட்டுத் தொடர்ந்து வெளியிட்டு வந்துள்ளது. இத்தகைய ஆய்வுப்பயணத்தின் தொடர்நீட்சியாக 2021-2022ஆம் கல்வியாண்டு முதல் இவ்விதழை அரையாண்டு இதழாக மட்டுமன்றி மின்னிதழாக வெளியிடவும் எம் தமிழாய்வுத்துறை விழைகிறது.
பழமைக்கும் புதுமைக்கும் பாலமாகத் திகழும் தமிழ்மொழியின் வழக்காறுகளையும், தமிழிலக்கிய வளங்களையும் உலகளாவிய ஆய்வுநெறிமுறைகளை அடியொற்றி ஆராய்வதை நோக்கமாகக் கொண்டு இவ்விதழ் வெளிவருகிறது
